easter holiday h/w

Media Audiences: What techniques does the opening sequence use to appeal to a weekday mainstream audience?

Media Institutions: What does this text tell us about the media institutions involved?

Media Forms: How does the extract follow the codes and convention of an opening sequence?

Media Representation: How are people and places represented in this opening sequence?

The openining sequence contains very precise camera angles and movements which are used to engage the audience straight away from the start. the panning movement which firstly shows a close up of the girl then slowly starts to zoom out and starts to move away from her body to then look staright past her and the camera moves forward until it reaches the front gate. The camera then ends up in the kitchen. the audience that probably watches this is a everyday average joe, that has come back from work and is wanting to relax and watch a 9 o clock programme on bbc1. the opening sequence does not tell all of the story but gives some hints on whats going to happen.

The insitutions that we can clearly see that are involved are the BBC, a public service broadcaster. the bbc produced this daily programme to appeal to a wider target audience, this is possible as the BBC have a right to inform and educate as well as entertain, but becuase the BBC''s entertainment side is nt aswell as they could hope they use spooks as a entertainment programme so that they are forefilling there duty. BBC One is a regionalized TV service which provides opt-outs throughout the day for local news and other local programming. These variations are more pronounced in the BBC 'Nations', i.e. Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, where the presentation is mostly carried out locally on BBC One and Two. BBC Two variations within England are currently rare, though most regions still have the ability to 'opt out' of the main feed, albeit on analogue only. BBC Two was also the first channel to be transmitted on 625 lines in 1964, and then carry a small-scale regular color service from 1967. BBC One would follow in December 1969.

The opening sequence does not reveal all that will happen during the programme, instead it gives hints as to what will happen during the course of the programme, for e.g the child we see skipping at the begining of the text has some relevance as we can see her wearing a school uniform, she is young and innocent and is oblivious to what is happeninmg around her; this could play a significant role becuase we see the mysterious people talking about where the son goes to school, this could be a plan for a kidnaping. The opening sequence virtually instantly gets the audiences expectations and gives them pleasure in knowing that it's a drama. The opening sequence gives some tension in the scene of when the pair are talking in the vehicle which gives the audience the impression that this is a serious drama genre.

The clip has a serious tone about it it. The extract follows the conventions by using such codes and conventions such as binary opposition, as what we can see as good vs bad or innocent vs intetionals, this is shown by the couple in the house which are oblivious to the fact that they are being spyed on by the couple in the car. The enigma codes include why are the couple being spyed on and what must they of done to desrve this.

Hitman, analysis

2) The women is dead, however she is posed in a pose which evokes sensuality, and this is a typical technique used in which the women is seen a sex object
3)she is dead, she was of wealth. conotations: typical blonde beauty.
4)the mise en scene shows what could of happend, it creates enigma codes as to why a women like that would be executed
5) the women is the central image, she has a bullet wound to the head, blood on the bed, the half naked body.
6) the audience is prodominatley male teenager
7) the audience will see that as being very well thought out as the women is 'beautiful' and she looks as if she was executed and so the text go's along with the mise en scene.
8)refer to the answer above
9)the target audience is middle class males of the age 15 and above even though it has a 18 certificate.
11) the characters would definatley show that the genre of the game would be a first person action shooter.
12) the genre of the text would be action, thriller in the story line sense of things, however the game would be classed as a first person shooter.

The audiences of the video game would be poeple above 18 as it shows this on the poster and mainly men as it contains violence as we can see. These are the assumptions made. The institution and games console on which the game is played on is Playstation 2 this gives the quality backing that would definatley give the audience encouragement to actually purchace the game. The other institutions such as EIDos would be the people who created the game.

pimp

is a song written by 50 Cent and Kon Artis for 50 Cent's commercial debut album Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003), released as the third single from it. The song is recognised with its steel drum tune. An official remix of the song was made, featuring Snoop Dogg, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.

The music video was directed by Chris Robinson and features the four rappers rapping with topless women, including Adriana Sage and Francine Dee. On July 15, 2003, the video debuted on MTV's Total Request Live at number nine and stayed on the chart for fifty days. At the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards, it was nominated for Best Rap Video, but lost to Jay-Z's "99 Problems"

the women are the most controversial part of the video, as there was alot of criticisms as to why 50 cent needed to place a certain image of women in the video. they are seen as sex slave and as objects to which are being controlled by the men, which again brings up superiorty complex within the everyday man, it could be said that chris robinson is planting seeds of thought into the audiences mind.

bullet boy trailer

The narrative for the film Bullet Boy is: about a man recently off parole attempting to straighten out his life, with negative results.
While on his way home from prison with his friend Wisdom, a wing mirror is hit off of another gangster's car by Wisdom who refuses to pay for it. Ricky, played by Ashley Walters, hides a gun in his room which his little brother Curtis finds.
Wisdom attempts to hunt down the gang member, named Godfrey, for spreading word that he doesn't want to fight, and to get revenge shoots his stafforshire terrier that he threatened Wisdom with earlier. As a result, Godfrey destroys Wisdom's car with a baseball bat and drives past his home shouting that he is "dead". Wisdom tries to kill Godfrey before he gets killed by him himself, but fails and is seen by Godfrey.
As the two flee from here, Curtis accidentally shoots his friend Rio when Rio suggests they take the gun out and play with it, and their mother eventually asks Ricky to leave the home.
Just before heading home, he goes to Wisdom's house to get the money Wisdom told him to take before he left, only to find Wisdom dead, presumably at the hands of his rival, he leaves after sitting there for a long time thinking. As he packs his bags, he asks Curtis to go to the takeaway and get a kebab, and when Curtis returns, his brother has already left. As Ricky is waiting at the train station, two gangsters approach him.
As Ricky is about to run away, Godfrey comes out and shoots him six times in the chest. His body is later identified, and the film ends with Curtis reclaiming the gun from where he hid it and throwing it in to the river.

setting of the in the trailer is seen as being a slum or ghetto, this is easily said because the typical stereo type attached to a area inhabited by people of a African Caribbean origins is normally seen as being a ghetto. In the trailer there is a distinctive image of a tower block, this is a sign of poverty in London and is therefore associated with the black ethnicity and poverty of London, this puts a sense of reason in the audiences minds, as they can see that there is a poverty struck area, gangs are inevitable, gang wars are inevitable and crime in all shapes and forms are inevitable.

Toderovs theory of equilibrium is not easily done for trailers as it mostly applies to the films, but from the trailer you can see that there is no set equilibrium in the start, you can see a state of equilibrium when there is a scene where the protagonist hugs his brother and there is a scene where the car is going through the streets, you could say that this is the equilibrium because everyday struggles are expected in the ghetto. disequilibrium happens when the police raid his house and keeps everybody at gun point, there is a reason to that but the audience doesn't find out until the next scene in which the little brother of the protagonist is holding a gun. only a glimpse of new equilibrium is seen when at the end of the trailer when there are two boys running through the field.

Narrative:
The narrative of this film is very easily predicted, the odvious there will be a big party, there needs to be booze but someone cannot get it so its left up to a random guy. The protagonist of the film almost always serves as an underdog. He falls for a girl that is much much more popular than he is, therefore in order to get her to notice him he trys to impress her in a number of different ways. For example, purchasing alcohol.

Iconography:
The 3 boys attempt to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol to give to the girl that Evan is 'in love with' and by doing this Evan would 'impress her . From the fact that 3 boys who are in high school have purchased a fake ID to buy alcohol, viewers can connote they may be buying the alcohol to get girls drunk in order to sleep with them. this glamourises the use of alchol.).

harry potter

Questions on the harry potter trailer

1) The key points highlighted in the trailer are that the lord voldermort has returned and that he is gathering dark forces in an attempt to destroy good magic. They have purposely done that to ensure that the audience have an insight of what will occur, and for those who have been following the sequels it is one of the main points of the harry potter story.
2) The genre of the film is a fantasy adventure, and this is set up the epic music, as the deep bass creates tension and in the music you can hear that there are high and low points. The mise-en scene also sets up the genre by using clouds and mist to create tension and a sense of mystery. The details of the film are set up in the traditional harry potter style font and this is how you know that it is a continuation.
3) The target audience would be people aged between 8-18 year olds, this is because the film is has a typical scenario of good vs evil and this is normally watched by people of all ages.
4) It shows most of the films main highlights, e.g. magical bouts and imagery of his relations with his close family and friends.
5) The narrator explains detailed parts of the film e.g. when he tells of voldermorts return and voldermorts past life and memories of him and past knowledge of him and what he has done to sabotage the good magic.
6) 1) they always show the rating
2) The comments received by newspapers
3) they show the distributors names
4) they give a list of the main characters
5) they sometimes show deleted parts of the film
6) the directors name is also given

Analysis of the Opening Sequence to: Heroes, “don’t look back”

Episode 2: Don't Look Back starts with a shot of the Heroes' logo (the globe in a shot of a solar eclipse), many shows do not have there own logo; they might have an opening title but not a logo. The opening sequence gives an insight into what might happen. The world covered in an eclipse is an obvious hint that the programme is going to have dark times ahead. A narrator’s voiceover saying the words previously on Heroes followed by a shot’s of 5 different people, introduces them and tells the audience what previously happened on Heroes. An enigma is created through the narrator introducing the characters but not really naming or stating there powers, that creates mystery and as it is still only the second episode this adds to the effect of increasing the tension and results in making the audience much more eager to know the rest of the story. The voice doing the voice over is then found out to be one of the characters in the show - in this episode, it is Mohinder and he is a scientist with no powers. The scene where peter is on the roof about to fall off uses a wide range of camera angles and views , when he jumps off the roof the camera uses a panning motion to follow him, the camera then merges with peter and you see what he sees when he is flying. This image then quickly cuts into an image of Peter laying in a hospital bed this, along with the stop in voice over, emphasises the idea that Peter's destiny is out of his control. This scene, mainly coloured blue and white this creates an effect of flash backs However
